About Hurghada
The three parts of Hurghada are genuinely different places. El Dahar is the old town with the local souq and the cheapest food; Sekalla is the mid-town strip of hotels, dive shops and bars; and the long southern extension — Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay — is a chain of self-contained resort bays with no town around them. Pick by what you want within walking distance, because the ends are 20 km apart.
Giftun Island and the surrounding reefs are the main day trip, and the same boats serve snorkellers and divers. Water temperature stays swimmable all year; the practical limit is summer air temperature and, in winter, the northerly wind that can cancel boat days at short notice.
